Nonesuch Records wanted to celebrate the SF Jazz Collective and their San Francisco Jazz Festival roots with an album series that wouldn’t look like typical records of the genre. We used classic optical illusions tricks in creating a clear case that was silk screened with a spiral of magenta lines, and offset over an album cover with the same design in different colors, creating a fun optical effect. While this was released just a month before Chip Kid's book cover of a very similar look, we agreed over email that it was a "great minds think alike" situation. (Though he concluded his mind had probably come up with the idea months before mine, to which I conceded). |
